How is a "pro-privacy pledge" different from a "privacy policy" or an "anti-spam policy?"
They're basically the same thing, we just don't really like those other terms. "Privacy Policy" just sounds like it's ridden with legal mumbo-jumbo that no one (including the people who write it) really understands. "Anti-spam policy" just sounds too... well... too ANTI. And we know what happens when we're anti-anything: our resistance brings more of what we're resisting to us! Besides, we know how important your privacy is to you and we want to assure you that we respect that, not because it's a mandated policy, but because it's a human responsibility. Our human responsibility is to respect each other, and that includes respecting anything that is important to each of us. This is why we call it a pledge.So, what exactly is your pledge?
We pledge that we will not sell, rent, lease, share, barter, give or otherwise misuse the trust you have placed in us by sharing your personal information with us. The only information we collect is your name and email address so that we may have a means to address you by as well as send you information that you have agreed to receive.Why do some sites require so much personal information from me?
Market research, mainly. To know who their core audience is. At followyoursoul.com, we don't care how old you are, what race you are or how much money you make. Heck, we don't even care if you use your real name (just choose one you like)! While it may benefit other sites to collect this information, we believe that everyone deserves some inspiration, no matter who they are. As long as you're human, that's all we need to know. And if not... it probably wouldn't matter to us either, we'll send you inspiration no matter what you are!What kind of inspiration will you send me?
We will send The Daily Dose inspirations to your inbox on a daily basis (unless Tree decides to take off on some backpacking, climbing or camping adventure - as she often does - on the spur of the moment and disappears). In this case, we are truly sorry you missed your daily emails, but imagine how we feel when she finally shows up unshowered and unkempt after roughing it for days in the wilderness. Pee-ew!You will also receive periodic emails from us with updates, inspiration and information on new freebies and goodies we found and want to pass onto you. Sometimes we feature them on our site (in which case, you will often hear about it first) and sometimes we just share it with members of our mailing list family.
What is an opt-in form?
An opt-in form is a form you fill out to state your intended desire to accept emails from us (on this site, it's the one that asks for your email address and has the "Yes, Inspire Me Daily!" button). We use a double opt-in form here as an added security measure against spammers and pranksters. When you fill out & submit the form, you are sent an automated email asking you to click on the link in that email to confirm your desire to opt-in. We know this requires an extra step on your part, but this ensures that the person filling out the form (you, hopefully) is really the person who wants to receive emails from us.Where is your mailing list maintained and who has access to it?
We use Constant Contact for our mailing list needs. They have a strict policy regarding privacy and they do not sell, rent, lease, access or use their customers' database information for any reason at any time.
