3/23/05: Seeking approval

If you have tried in vain to make someone like you, perhaps it is time to stop trying. Their not liking you has nothing to do with you whatsoever and everything to do with them. You cannot make anyone like you. If you have remained true to yourself and they still do not like you, perhaps it was not meant to be. It is ok not to be liked by everyone.

Ask yourself why it is so important to you that they like you. Is there something within you that needs to be liked, that needs validation? If so, you are the only one who can validate it and provide for its needs. Otherwise, you will continue to move from person to person seeking validation and approval. Once you receive it from someone, you will soon find yourself seeking out another to receive it from, and another, and another.

Resolve within yourself that need to be liked. Like yourself first and foremost and it will cease to matter if anyone else likes you. Ironically, you will find the more you genuinely like yourself, the more others will naturally like you.
