2/4/08: Practiced Thought Patterns

You can change the way you feel by changing the focus of your thoughts. It is not necessary to control your thoughts, which may prove to be difficult if not impossible; it is simply a matter of choosing which thoughts you want to put your attention on and which ones you want to let go of.

Thoughts come and go, some of them are useful, some of them aren’t. It is up to you to selectively sift through your thoughts until you find the ones you want to keep around, the ones that please you.

When you find them, let them linger for a while. Bask in them until other like thoughts begin to piggyback on them, bringing you more pleasing thoughts.

The more you deliberately choose which thoughts to keep around, the more thoughts of like kind will come around.

Since our patterns of thinking are a result of a practiced habit, we can practice our way out of the old patterns and into new ones that better serve us.

All it takes is practice. Like anything, the more you practice, the easier it becomes.
