1/19/05:
Free rent
Imagine you are a landlord of a huge apartment complex. One
of your tenants refuses to pay rent, destroys your property,
abuses the neighbors, and all around disregards the by-laws you
have set forth for the complex. Would you take action to remove
the disruptive tenant or would you allow him to continue living
there rent free month after month, year after year?
The answer seems obvious, yet, every day, we allow disruptive
tenants to live in our heads rent free. Some live there for years
until the day we die.
How many disruptive tenants are you allowing free rent in your
head right now? Perhaps your father abused you when you were
younger and though he is no longer around, you still allow him
to abuse you in your head. Perhaps a lover betrayed you years
ago and though you no longer have physical contact with her,
you continue to allow her to betray you in your head.
Whoever has wronged you in the past or present, you must not
allow them to linger in your mind. The anger, hurt and resentment
you feel when you think of them is destroying your most valuable
property, your self. It also affects everything else you do.
A disruptive tenant in an apartment complex disrupts the harmony
of the entire complex.
You must take action to remove
any disruptive tenants in your heart and your head, and create
a living space that is loving,
peaceful and in harmony.
