1/9/05: Life is your career.
Choose it well.
Who says you have to have
one profession? Why do most people pick one profession and
stick with it until the day they die,
no matter how miserable they are? So what if you've spent the
last 8 years in medical school and the last 10 years building
up your practice? Are you fulfilled? If you have been miserable
for the past 18 years because you picked the "wrong" profession,
how much longer do you choose to be miserable? Another 18 years?
If you are driving cross country and found out that you took
the wrong highway, wouldn't you turn around? Or perhaps you would
find another route to get where you want to go.
Or would you simply stay on the wrong highway and keep driving
until you run out of gas?
If you are miserable on the road you have taken, then take another
one. It is never too late to choose a different path.
I know someone who was once a doctor, then became a preacher,
then became a Buddhist monk, then became a home developer. And
now he is working at Kmart greeting people as they walk in the
door. And guess what? He is the happiest 80 year old man I know!
