It doesn't matter what anyone else does, it only matters what you do in response to it.

If someone is mean to you and you respond by being mean back, you are exactly like them in that moment: mean.

It doesn't matter what circumstances caused you to react that way, it only matters that you did.

To be an authentic human being is to be accountable for your actions, no matter what. No one or no thing can cause you to act the way you do. What you do is a direct result of who you are, not who someone else is or what they have done.
